		<description>
HBO Films: Cinema VeriteWe worked closely with directors Bob Pulcini and Shari Springer Berman to design and produce several aspects of the film: the main title sequence, split-screens with vintage TVs showing the original PBS Loud family with the HBO Loud family, the "chapter headings" on the Steenbeck, the end title sequence, and the big one: the live-action montage sequence that appears toward the end of the film of people across America in 1973 watching the Loud family on television.

We had a great time hunting down vintage props, televisions and locations for the shoot! It was a fantastic collaboration with the filmmakers, HBO, and post supervisor, Luca Borghese.

Behind the scenes snapshots:Smith and Lee produced and directed shoots for both the main title and montage sequences. The montage sequence was filmed over four and a half days in Los Angeles and Gareth's home town in Northern California.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/1/50042/1411788/IMG_0701.jpg" width="640" height="480" width_o="640" height_o="480" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/1/50042/1411788/IMG_0701_o.jpg" data-mid="9049853" border="0" align="left"/&#62;Many of the living room shots for the montage sequence were set up on a soundstage, allowing us to carefully control the production design and lighting. The sequence was shot on the RED.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/1/50042/1411788/IMG_0656.jpg" width="640" height="480" width_o="640" height_o="480" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/1/50042/1411788/IMG_0656_o.jpg" data-mid="9049848"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;A lot of the vintage televisions needed touch-up work to make them look new.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/1/50042/1411788/jenntv2.jpg" width="640" height="480" width_o="640" height_o="480" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/1/50042/1411788/jenntv2_o.jpg" data-mid="9050211"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;Jenny Lee preps the prop televisions for camera.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/1/50042/1411788/IMG_0665.jpg" width="640" height="480" width_o="640" height_o="480" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/1/50042/1411788/IMG_0665_o.jpg" data-mid="9049850" border="0" align="left"/&#62;A number of shots in the montage sequence were filmed in actual homes. Shooting on location provided a depth and level of detail that would have been difficult to simulate onstage. That's our fantastically talented Director of Photography, Philip Holahan.

		<description>

John Carpenter's The WardNeedless to say, John Carpenter was one of our heroes growing up in the 80s. So when we got the opportunity to work with him on his first film in over a decade, we were thrilled.

John Carpenter wanted to somehow incorporate images of brutal, antiquated psychiatric methods over the decades. This sequence required a great deal of research to locate historical woodcuts, engravings and photos from the past. For the photographs in the 1950s and 60s, we staged our own photo shoot to capture the exact images we wanted.

These historical images are embedded onto shards of shattering glass to develop an atmosphere of dread at the beginning of the film. The shattering glass is also a subtle nod to the final surprising twist of the film.

See how the sequence was made at Art of the Title.

From Nick Pinkerton of The Village Voice:
Beautiful and atmospheric representatives of a lost art, the credits themselves show images of madness, including woodcuts and antique lobotomy photos, on shattering panes of glass whose shards float across the screen in slow motion.Credits:Title Designers

		<description>
FishWe teamed up with director R.J. Cutler (The September Issue) for his short documentary film, Fish, to create the opening title treatment and end title sequence. For the main title, we laser-cut the letters and filmed them individually as they dropped into a fish tank in slow motion.

Fish is part of a short film series titled the Character Project by the USA Network and RSA Films. You can see Fish and the other short films at:

USA Network's Character Project 2011

Behind the scenes snapshots:We decided that it would be more fun to do the main title treatment for FISH by hand than using digital techniques.

Step 1: Laser cut the letters :)

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/1/50042/1411784/fishletters.jpg" width="640" height="478" width_o="640" height_o="478" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/1/50042/1411784/fishletters_o.jpg" data-mid="9050642"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;Ta da!

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/1/50042/1411784/fish2.jpg" width="640" height="480" width_o="640" height_o="480" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/1/50042/1411784/fish2_o.jpg" data-mid="9050514"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;Next: Sand letters by hand.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/1/50042/1411784/fish1.jpg" width="640" height="480" width_o="640" height_o="480" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/1/50042/1411784/fish1_o.jpg" data-mid="9050512"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;... then dip them into thick, semi-gloss paint.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/1/50042/1411784/IMG_5437.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/1/50042/1411784/IMG_5437_o.jpg" data-mid="9050375" border="0" align="left"/&#62;We rigged an aquarium to allow us to drop the letters into the water. The letters would float in place, held by a fishing string which was attached to the bottom of the aquarium.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/1/50042/1411784/IMG_5446.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/1/50042/1411784/IMG_5446_o.jpg" data-mid="9050378"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Google Chrome OSThis is a series of animated videos that humorously explain the various features of the Google Chrome OS notebook - a notebook computer that's designed entirely for the web. These animations were created for a pilot program that introduced potential beta testers, and future users, to the Chrome operating system.

Flying Glass of Milk ProductionsBlink and you might miss it! This is one of those Extremely Short production company logos that appears after TV shows. We created this for Matt Nix, creator of Burn Notice (USA Network) and The Good Guys (FOX).

Flying Glass of Milk is based on a character created by Matt Nix's son, 5-year-old Charlie. It's the first time we received notes from a 5-year-old art director, and he made it better. Our one note while working on this brief logo was from Charlie: "Where are the shoes?"

Remainder MenWe designed Detroit 1-8-7's pilot opening title and lower-third graphics for the new police drama airing in the fall on ABC. One of the creators, David Zabel, contacted us to create his 3 second logo that will appear at the end of each episode.</description>
