Labor Day
2013 • Paramount Pictures
Main Title sequence
Directed by Jason Reitman
For our fifth collaboration with Jason Reitman, we crafted a quiet, atmospheric opening sequence set to Rolfe Kent’s haunting, dreamlike score. Comprised of rural driving shots, the sequence sets the tone for Labor Day’s emotional and nostalgic narrative.
The film’s lush cinematography and sense of longing inspired us to take the audience on a slow summer drive through the back roads of Massachusetts, ultimately arriving at the house where much of the story unfolds.
Working with footage provided to us by the production, we edited and composited multiple shots using layered cross-dissolves—creating a visual language that feels fluid, impressionistic, and steeped in memory.
